Damaging effects of chlorine in your water back to top

Drinking chlorinated water
The main function of carbon filters is to remove the bad taste and smell from the drinking water. Carbon filters do not require a lot of maintenance, and with proper sediment filter changes and media changes, can provide the best tasting water. With improved taste, the filters also remove odor providing you with fresh tasting drinking water. They provide an excellent value for your money and definitely a better choice then bottled water.

Cooking with chlorinated water
If you've ever cooked pasta in filtered water or made coffee or tea using filtered water you can definitely tell the difference. Chlorine is a chemical that is adsorbed into your foods and make your sauces and hot drinks taste foul. All of the top restaurants, chefs and even coffee houses use filtered water now so they can produce a quality product every time.

Showering with chlorinated water
Just like swimming in a chlorinated pool, showering in chlorinated water affects your skin and hair. Over time the chlorine will dry out your hair, requiring the use of conditioners for your hair and for those with chemically treated hair (colored) you may also bleach out your color. Your skin is an organ whose pores soak up chlorine when showering and vapors from steam. Because your skin does this, it can leave your skin itchy and uncomfortable.

"We bought our filter in February 2012. It was easy to install and has worked flawlessly. Now, our water tastes great right from the tap and there is no more scale buildup in our shower! One unexpected benefit is that my wife, who has suffered from almost daily migraines for over twenty years, now has very few headaches; they stopped within a few days of installation. Pelican has been a miracle for us! Thank you!"

David L. - Peoria, AZ

"We are delighted with our Pelican water system. My skin feels smoother, my teeth are whiter, the clothes and dishes are cleaner, and we can have a drink of pure water from any faucet in the house. The set up went smoothly too. The carbon dust didn't really accumulate in the toilets after the first night. I didn't clean the tanks until about a month later as there wasn't any problem. For us, it is part of our living a healthier lifestyle."

Bette - Clarendon Hills

"My parents water was so awful. It had a bad smell as well as taste, but with this filter system they can now drink and cook with their own tap water. Thank you Pelican Water Systems."

Pelican PC600 Whole House Water Filter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 81.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The representative I talked to before purchase and ordering was great. He answered my questions and made the purchase easy. The shipping was fast. The hook up for this filtering system was not extraordinarily difficult for me and probably would not be for the average DIY homeowner with common sense. I could tell the difference in my water quality almost instantly and I have only had it in for a couple of days so far. No more chlorine smell and dry skin caused by the disgusting chemicals added into the water supply by the city. I can now feel good about exposing myself to the water in my home. Well worth the money!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hopefully the water will taste better in time... I've installed the PC1000 in a 3 bathroom home here in Orange County, California. Now, about 2-weeks after installation, I've noticed that although the water doesn't smell like chlorine anymore and its very clear in color, its got an "earthy" taste, as if the chlorine was hiding an underlying musty, earthy taste that is still there. Although I bought this system so that my family wouldn't have to but bottled water, they won't drink the tap water and continues on bottled water. I can understand why as the filtered water doesn't taste all that good. Hopefully its just a carbon-tank that has to "break-in", otherwise this may have bee a complete mistake purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ELEVEN YEARS AND STILL GOING I BOUGHT A PC1000SYSTEM ELEVEN YEARS AGO AND INSTALLED IT ON HOME. WATER NEVER TASTED SO GOOD. NO BAD ODOR, NO CHLORINE SMELL OR TASTE. I MOVED IN DECEMBER 2017 AND JUST PURCHASED A SECOND PC1000 FILTER SYSTEM FOR NEW HOME. WHY CHANGE PERFECTION. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING A WHOLE HOUSE FILTER SYSTEM, MAKE THE JUMP. YOU WILL BE HAPPY.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from in Tucson the ground water is packed with sediments, constantly ruining our fixtures and appliances. I expected a large improvement in our water quality with this system, but so far it has been so much better than what I had anticipated. we'll see how long the filters last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Self Install Pelican Whole House Filter My new Pelican whole house filter is working very well. I'm very pleased with the quality of the product. The support was very impressive as I had several questions along the way during my install. The product support staff were always willing to help and there was very minimal wait time on the phone. I also used their Email support system and received a timely response. I installed my own plumbing using Pex pipe so that I could get everything the way I wanted and also to build a bypass system into the plumbing. The install took a full day over a two day period to mount and paint the plywood, build the Pex piping system, and then mount the system to the wall and plumb in the main lines. ISSUES: My lines had to be reduced to 3/4" the size of my main line. There seems to be no single fitting to go from 1" pipe thread (first filter input) to 3/4" pex crimp fitting. This required the use of a 1" x 3/4" reducer and a separate 3/4" pex to pipe thread fitting. These two brass fittings leak even though they were fitted with plenty of pipe dope. I'm hoping this will eventually heal its self. Another issue was that the head on the big tank was not tight. Even though I checked it prior to installation. A few days after the install it started to leak. I took the tank out and found that if I held it real tight at the bottom with my feet that I could get the head to tighten a little further. Reinstalled the tank and there was no longer any leak.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Features. I'm happy with this product and it was easy to install with the installation kit I purchased. Patrick, the customer service person I talked to was very helpful and answered all of my questions. I also talked to Mike, a technician about the install and he was also very helpful. The PC600 does just what they said it would, my hair, scalp and skin is no longer scaly and itchy. I saw a difference right away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well made system. Looks good, works good, and has a good hook up system to plumb it in to the house's water distribution. I had no problems, I self installed the system, but you must read the instructions to prepare the filter system for installation. Pre-soaking the carbon filter media more than 48 ours will also result with less carbon being released on the initial usage of the system.

How It Works - Pelican Premium Carbon Filtration System

Premium 4-Stage Whole House Water Filtration System back to top

Stage 1
5-Micron Pre-filter System - The sediment pre-filter system reduces sand, silt, sediment and debris in the supplied water down to 5 micron (20 times smaller than a human hair) in size. Routine replacement of this 5-micron sediment filter will increase the effectiveness and protect plumbing and appliances from excess sediment. With average use, each filter is effective for approximately 6-9 months.

Stages 2 & 3
Catalytic Granular Activated Carbon Media (GAC) - Pelican utilizes a high-grade mesh blend of catalytic coconut shell based activated carbon in the Pelican Carbon Series Premium Whole House Water Filters. Learn More

These media are designed to filter chlorine, chloramines, pesticides, herbicides, pharmaceuticals, industrial solvents and hundreds of other contaminants that may be present in your water.

Stage 4
Pelican Media Guard - Copper and Zinc Oxidation Media (KDF-55) - We also include a patented bacteriostatic copper-zinc reduction oxidation media for the purpose of preventing and reducing the potential growth of bacteria and algae.

As a market leader, Pelican Water uses only the top-rated valves and tanks in the manufacturing of each Pelican system, all of which are backed by an industry leading limited lifetime parts warranty.

Reasons to Use the Pelican Carbon Series Premium Whole House Water Filter back to top

There are many reasons why our whole house water filter is right for you. Below are just a few:
  • The large diameter of the tank holds a significant amount of water filtration carbon media, increasing the overall performance and lifespan of the filter.
  • The replacement cost is a fraction of the cost of comparable products from competitors.
  • Replacement is extremely easy. When it comes time to replace the filter, all you have to do is replace the media inside the tank. There is no plumbing required and no need to replace the entire tank, as there is with other whole house systems.
Can you imagine spring like water coming through every faucet of your home? That’s what you’ll have when you use Pelican Water’s Premium Whole House Water Filter System. Say goodbye to dry, itchy skin and unpleasant odors caused by the chemicals in your water, and hello to sparkling clean water that you’ll enjoy drinking.

Premium Stainless Steel - Lifetime Warranty back to top

The Pelican Premium Water Systems are wrapped in premium stainless steel to ensure long life, durability and unsurpassed quality ... Not to mention they look amazing!

Upflow versus Downflow back to top

The Pelican Carbon Series Whole House Water Filter Systems are specially designed as an Up-Flow System that does not require any special process or instructions for replacing the media. Other Down-Flow Systems on the market do not allow for the media replacement as an option because the homeowner would have to have special knowledge or tools to complete the task. Many water filtration experts agree that down-flow systems often have channeling issues in the media making them less effective in filtering out chemicals in the water because the water is unable to reach the unexpired media.

Channeling is the process where small tunnels form in the media allowing water to flow in the same channel every time. Water always takes the path of least resistance. The Pelican Systems force the water in an Up-Flow direction up from the bottom of the tank in a swirling motion causing the carbon media to swirl. This motion allows the water to have maximum contact with the carbon media resulting in a very effective filtration process without the possibility of channeling. This is found to be the most effective design in whole house water filtration systems.

Replacement Media Vs. Replacement Tank back to top

It is important to understand how the carbon media inside the Pelican Carbon Series Systems works; Adsorption: the process by which matter (chemicals) adheres to the surface areas of a solid adsorbent material (carbon media). In layman's terms the chemicals in your water are adsorbed into the carbon media on contact. The carbon media does not release any chemicals back into your water once they are adsorbed. We offer the replacement media as a more cost effective and environmentally friendly approach. When it comes time to replace the media, you are not throwing away a tank, fittings, or having to try and dispose of a complete system. Not to mention the cost of hiring a plumber to remove the old tank and install the new one.

Some companies are trying to discourage this process and use tactics to scare the consumer into thinking that they must buy a completely new system when the media expires; this is unnecessary and not very cost effective. The media is the fuel for the system (it's like the gas in your car). If you had to replace your car every time you ran out of gas that would be crazy, the same goes for the filtration system. The tanks and fittings are designed for this specific application. The cost of the system does not only include the media inside the tank, it includes many factors: the tank, fittings, media, and labor to build, shipping, advertising, and overhead. The media inside the tank is only part of the cost of a complete system therefore you cannot rate the effectiveness of the media based on the low cost to replace it.

No Water Waste back to top

The Pelican Carbon Series Systems use an up-flow design and do not waste any water while filtering and softening/conditioning the water for your entire home. While other systems use a down-flow design requiring them to backwash once or twice a week wasting 100-300 gallons of water each time they backwash. The fact is that we cannot afford to waste one drop of water. Water is one the most important resources we have on earth.

No Electricity back to top

The Pelican Carbon Series Systems eliminates the need for an electronic head for backwashing because of its up-flow design. No moving parts means less maintenance and no service calls for damaged moving parts that render the system unable to filter your water.
