The Benefits of Facial Steaming & How to Do It at Home

Proper hydration and clear pores are the foundation of radiant skin. Facial steaming is one of the oldest and most effective methods of keeping those pores healthy and free from clogging. When was the last time you took a few minutes to steam your face? We know you lead a hectic, busy life, but facial steaming benefits your skin in many ways:

    • If you steam on a regular basis your pores remain open, allowing oil to flow freely and preventing dirt and other debris from clogging your pores.
    • Sweating while steaming will push out the dirt stuck at the base of your pores that would otherwise remain lodged inside.
    • Steaming naturally makes your face shed dead skin to keep a youthful, vibrant glow. Dead skin can make the skin on your face appear less smooth.
    • Steaming will loosen blackheads so you can more easily release them afterwards without pain.
    • While you are sweating you will release any nasal congestion, cleaning out your sinuses. Steam also kills bacteria to help prevent infections.
    • You can add a face pack if you have time. Using a face pack after steaming will remove the gunk from your pores while they are fully open. To remove the face pack wash your face with cold water, and apply some ice cubes on your face for a few minutes to close your pores back up.
    • Steaming also helps flush makeup from your pores. If you regularly wear makeup some is bound to be lodged in your pores no matter how diligently you use makeup remover.

So, how can you properly steam your face to get the most benefits for your skin? Follow these simple steps to steam your face at home:

    • Pour several cups of filtered water in a pot, and then bring it to a full boil. Filtered water will already have many contaminants and purities removed to deliver the cleanest steaming experience.
    • Once the water begins warming up wash your face with a gentle facial cleanser. Removing surface dirt, oil, and makeup from your skin will allow your pores to naturally open and reduce the risk of clogged pores while steaming. Don’t scrub too hard to avoid irritating your skin – just pat your face dry with a towel.
    • You can add essential oils to the water right before you begin steaming to reap more health benefits. Research online for the best essential oils for your skin type. You can also add mint or chamomile tea bags to calm and sooth the skin.
    • Once the filtered water has reached it’s boiling point you can turn off your stove and allow some time to pass until the desired level of heat is reached. Wrap your head in a towel and allow it to drape to the sides so your face can capture as much steam as possible. Place your face close enough to the steam so that you can feel it, but don’t burn yourself. We recommend steaming for no longer than 10 minutes.

Using boiled filtered water you can relax your skin, keep your face clear of pimples, and unlock anti-aging benefits of allowing your natural oils to flow freely. Don’t act so surprised – water can benefit your body in countless ways.
