Planning for a New Baby: Crib, Car Seat . . . Drinking Filter?

Congratulations! You’re about to become a parent. The next nine months will be a whirlwind of preparation, excitement, and probably a bit of anxiety, all of which is perfectly normal.

The list of items you need to welcome a new child into your home is staggering. Car seats, cribs, strollers, diapers, blankets, baby clothes, and yes, a water filtration system. Healthier filtered water is as important for your baby’s health and safety as it is for yours — even before your child starts drinking water.

At first, your baby will be drinking breastmilk, baby formula, or a combination of the two. If you’re breastfeeding, you need to be as healthy as possible. You also need to drink water frequently to make up for the extra fluid you’re losing with breast milk.

Water filters are even more vital if you’re formula feeding. While boiling water for formula kills microorganisms, it does not eliminate chemical chlorine or chloramines which have been linked to a number of cancers and central nervous system problems. Children are more sensitive to contaminants in water than adults, although the entire family will benefit from cleaner, filtered water.

Perhaps more importantly, by installing a water filtration system early on, you give your child a chance to grow up with cleaner, better-tasting water readily available. Making a habit of drinking water from an early age encourages children to continue drinking water when they inevitably encounter sodas and other sugary drinks. You have a chance to develop your child’s tastes from an early age; take this opportunity to encourage healthy habits.

Raising a child is one of the greatest and most rewarding tasks a person can undertake. Enjoy your little one as much as possible; they really do grow up fast. To make sure they grow up as safe as possible, consider installing a countertop or whole house filtration system. Pelican’s Whole House Walter Filters also provides great-tasting water your kids can adopt and love from an early age, while filtering chlorine, chloramines, and other contaminants out of every faucet in the house.
