Fourth of July gatherings are characterized by tables of barbecue, corn on the cob, and plate after plate of specialty dishes. Just as important, however, are the beverages, which quench our thirst on a hot day of fun in the sun. The following recipes will help you transform your Pelican filtered water into unforgettable beverages for your Independence Day celebration.

Lemonade Iced Tea

Much like the famous Arnold Palmer, this refreshing beverage blends two summer classics: iced tea and lemonade. You can also give the drink a grown up kick by adding some spiced dark rum or bourbon.

Essentials:

  • 2 extra-large tea bags
  • 3 cups pure, filtered water
  • 4 cups pure, filtered chilled water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1 (6-oz.) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
  • Lemonade concentrate
  • Fresh citrus slices as garnish
  • 2-qt. saucepan
  • 3-qt. container
  • Spiced dark rum
  • Bourbon

Preparation

  1. Fill a 2-qt. saucepan with 3 cups pure, filtered water and bring to a boil.
  2. Remove from heat and add tea bags.
  3. Stir in fresh mint.
  4. Cover and steep for approximately ten minutes.
  5. Remove tea bags and mint.
  6. Stir in sugar until it fully dissolves.
  7. Fill 3-qt. container with tea.
  8. Stir in lemonade concentrate.
  9. Stir in 4 cups filtered chilled water.
  10. Add liquor and/or accent with garnish if desired.

“Firecracker Red” Punch

Bright red and uniquely delicious, this festive beverage will have people coming back for second and third helpings.

Essentials:

  • 4 cups cranberry juice
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 cups pineapple juice
  • 1 tablespoon almond extract
  • 2 liters ginger ale
  • 2 to 6 cups pure, filtered water

Preparation

  1. Combine the first four ingredients.
  2. Add sugar and stir until sugar is dissolved.
  3. Chill thoroughly in your refrigerator.
  4. Pour into punch bowl.
  5. Stir in ginger ale.
  6. Taste the punch and add filtered water to reduce sweetness and tartness as desired.

Strawberry Citrus Punch

A refreshing complement to a holiday meal, this thirst-quenching drink provides tart flavor and a slushy texture that teases the senses.

Essentials:

  • 4 cups strawberries (hulled)
  • Frozen orange juice concentrate (12 ounce can)
  • Frozen lemonade concentrate (12 ounce can)
  • 2 liters ginger ale (chilled)
  • 1 cup pure, filtered water
  • Immersion blender or potato masher

Preparation

  1. Blend orange juice concentrate and lemonade concentrate in a large bowl.
  2. Stir in 1 cup filtered water and strawberries.
  3. Create slushy mixture using an immersion blender or potato masher.
  4. Stir in ginger ale and chill in your refrigerator for about two hours.
  5. Serve over ice.
